Dune

Sparky, setting the tone for the workout.

Mid-September. Around here, that means it's time for the annual Friday Kincaid Sand Dune Workout. This is an event that was founded about ten years ago by former UAA Nordic Team head coach Andrew Kastning. I don't remember if Andrew's initial idea was to run this workout solely for the Nordic team, and then it grew in size in popularity as other UAA sports teams joined us, or whether Andrew initially conceived it as a program-wide bonding event from the start. Andrew would know. You should go ask him.

Regardless of how it was conceived, it's turned into a popular event among all the Seawolf sports programs because it's a simple maximum-intensity exercise that's good for any athlete, whether the sport is hockey, basketball, skiing, or gymnastics. It never hurts to to do maximum sprints until you hurl. And this is one of the only chances we Skiwolves get to do a workout side-by-side with athletes from the other teams.
