Has any American junior male cross-country skier ever scored points in a World Cup race? I really don't know. And I'm too busy living my life and doing stuff to take the time to research this question. But starting yesterday, the answer will forever be "yes". That's because Seawolf JC Schoonmaker scored in the points yesterday in a World Cup sprint race in Dresden, Germany!
Readers of this blog do not need me to explain the significance of this accomplishment. I thoroughly enjoyed watching JC's race in a Youtube video with Norwegian commentary yesterday. But today I was given a clip of JC's quarterfinal heat with commentary by Chad Salmela, which was a lot more JC-centric than the Norwegian commentary, naturally, and thus more fun for us Seawolf fans to watch. Here is the video, created by Mera, JC's little sister. (Thanks, Mera!)
Congratulations to JC for his truly historic World Cup accomplishment this weekend!
Here's a link to a news article about the race, which includes a nice interview with Marine about JC.
The UAA Ski Team hits the road Wednesday morning for the start of the RMISA college racing season. We are super excited to get the college racing season underway, and I think we go into the season with added momentum and anticipation, coming off JC's exciting recent sprint racing escapades. Stay tuned for updates from the road!
