In the Thick of It

I'd love to tell you all about the US National Championships, which were held a couple of weeks ago on our home trails at Kincaid Park. But the event was sort of a blur for me. I was the stadium announcer for the races. And when you spend the whole week talking nonstop into a microphone, you don't get much time to actually watch, listen, and absorb what's happening on the racing trails. I think our Seawolves had a couple of pretty good results. And I vaguely remember some cold days at the beginning of the week, and some warm days at the end of the week. Otherwise, my memory of that week is pretty much blank.

At the conclusion of Championship week, Anchorage went into full meltdown. Several days of rain and warm weather turned Anchorage into a giant puddle, which eventually turned into a giant sheet of ice. Our skiing had been pretty good in Anchorage ever since we got snow in late October. That has come to an end.

So we were happy to leave warm, rainy Anchorage earlier this week and board a flight bound for Utah and Montana. With our first two RMISA races being two of the events at the US Championships, the Utah Invitational and Montana Invitational are the second and third sets of races on our RMISA calendar.

So we're down south, enjoying winter, and happy to have a reason to be away from tropical Alaska for a couple of weeks.

We traveled to Utah this week via the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport. This allowed us a workout in West Yellowstone along the route to Utah.

In West Yellowstone, Montana. Marit and Beth.

Kick wax testing in Soldier Hollow is always good for a few laughs.

Poor Tuva has been shivering cold pretty much all week. I don't know why, though.

Rendezvous at the team truck

Women's mass start this morning.

Erling. Giving all he's got.

This photo is not from this road trip. It's from Fairbanks, back in December. But it's a great photo of all of us (except Alex). And it was taken by Tobias Albrigtsen at (untraceableglobal.smugmug.com/). There are lots of great photos of us on his website, so check it out.
